MEJO 121 - Interview

For my MEJO 121 final project, I chose to interview Dr. Elizabeth Gunst.

Dr. Gunst is an optometrist based out of Cary, NC (not too far from Chapel Hill) for Triangle Visions Optometry. She is a North Carolina native who attended undergraduate at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) and graduate school at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. 

As an aspiring optometrist, I've been blessed to shadow Dr. Gunst across multiple summers (both in high school and college), and she is a big reason I want to pursue optometry as a career path myself. 

Besides letting me follow her around patient exams, she's also always been kind enough to answer any of my questions about the general field of optometry, write me letters of recommendation, and even let me practice with the optical equipment in her office.

Dr. Gunst is not only very knowledgeable about the eyes (as you'll see in the interview), but also very outgoing, personable, and genuinely interested in not only the well-being of her patients, but also getting to know them personally.  So, with all this in mind, I knew she'd be someone great to interview for this project since she always brings a good combination of positive energy and detailed ocular knowledge to any optometry-based conversation. 

Overall, I hope that everyone who watches the interview learns more about the profession of optometry itself, as well as gets a feel for just how knowledgeable and friendly of a person Dr. Gunst is!
