Here's a brief paraphrased Q&A with my classmate Kaitlin previewing her final interview project for MEJO 121, which consists of her conducting an interview with her well-traveled friend Bridget.
What’s the central topic of your interview?
"I'd say raising international cultural awareness through interviewing my friend Bridget who's lived in seven different countries about her personal overseas experiences and insights."
How'd you meet Bridget?
"Last year as a freshman here at UNC through a mutual friend."
What countries has Bridget lived in?
"The Phillipines, Columbia, Brazil, and Kenya - just to name a few."
As just a college student, why has Bridget already lived in so many countries?
"Her Dad worked for the U.S. State Department, so her family moved around to a bunch of different embassies for his job."
How do you feel like the interview went?
"I think it well. She (Bridget) is very smart/articulate and had good answers tailored to my specific questions. The main challenge was just finding a good map to place in the background."
What are the main takeaways you hope the audience will have your from your interview?
"That (as Americans) it's important to be educated about other cultures. Most Americans never even leave the U.S. and have very limited knowledge about other countries and cultures."
