Etiology - Corneal edema is caused by swelling in the cornea (outermost part of the eye). Contributing factors can include eye trauma/surgery, infection, chemical exposure, contact overuse, and genetics.
Symptoms - Blurry vision, halos around lights, eye redness/swelling, light sensitivity, and eye pain/discomfort.
Details - Corneal edema occurs due to fluid build up within the cornea. This extra fluid retention then alters how light enters the eye leading to blurry vision and potential eye discomfort.
Treatment - Approaches vary on a case-by-case basis, but common strategies include prescription saline (saltwater) eye drops, anti-inflammatory medications, decrease/stoppage of contact use, and occasionally surgery.
